In October 2017, over 80 women in Hollywood accused Weinstein, who founded Miramax and later The Weinstein Company alongside his brother Bob Weinstein, of sexually assaulting and raping them. However, the 2018 prosecution focused on the charges brought by two women, per : former production assistant Miriam “Mimi” Haleyi and aspiring actress Jessica Mann.

He was charged with two counts of rape, one count of criminal sexual act and two counts of predatory sexual assault. The New York jury on two counts of criminal sexual assault, but not guilty on three other charges, which included predatory sexual assault.

Weinstein firmly denied the accusations, stating that his experiences with the women were consensual.
