Annie Leibovitz Named as the First Artist in Residence by IKEA
In a groundbreaking move, IKEA has appointed the legendary Annie Leibovitz as its inaugural artist in residence. This collaboration kicks off with a special exhibition titled “Life at Home,” featuring a collection of 25 captivating images that depict diverse households and their occupants from around the globe. The exhibition is scheduled to take place in Paris from February 29th to March 3rd, 2024. This innovative initiative stems from the recognition that nearly half (48%) of individuals worldwide believe that media representation often neglects their everyday domestic experiences.

IKEA’s Vision to Transform the Portrayal of Home Life in Media
Remaining at the forefront of global lifestyle trends, IKEA continues to provide valuable insights through its Life at Home Report—a comprehensive study spanning over a decade that celebrates the essence of domestic life. Recent revelations from the report highlight a prevailing sentiment that many people feel their personal home experiences are not accurately reflected in the media. This realization has sparked a collaboration with the esteemed American photographer, Annie Leibovitz. From a camper van journeying through Italy to a boathouse in East London, and from a cozy Tokyo apartment to a multi-generational residence in Mumbai, Leibovitz’s photography beautifully captures the diverse tapestries of home living across the world. These evocative images are currently on display at 28 Rue de Lappe in Paris, France, for a limited time.
‘We aim to challenge the existing portrayal of home life in the media. Through the IKEA+ exhibition, we are amplifying new voices, fresh perspectives, and innovative ways of showcasing life at home. Our goal is to inspire individuals to create living spaces that truly embody and reflect their unique identities,’ explains Marcus Engman, Creative Director at Ingka Group (IKEA Retail).

A Harmonious Blend of Design, Photography, and Fashion at 28 Rue de Lappe
The meticulously designed space at 28 Rue de Lappe, envisioned by spatial designer Emerzon and architect Midori Hasuike, pays homage to the distinct character and ambiance of its various rooms. The Life at Home collection is prominently featured on the ground floor, while the mezzanine level showcases a series of photographs by emerging talents such as Elena Kalinichenko, Ka’Vozia Glynn, Praise Hassan, Toma Hurduc, Trâm Nguyen Quang, and Zélie Hallosserie—participants in a special mentorship program led by IKEA and Annie Leibovitz. Additionally, the mezzanine hosts the creative endeavors of six young designers from Casa93, an avant-garde fashion education initiative. Working closely with IKEA mentors, Eva Louisa N´kie, Gitroïna Isaac, Ivann Halleur, Juliette Willemet, Loreny Tanda, and Raphale Nahon present exhibitions that focus on self-expression through home decor.
‘We are delighted to host the IKEA+ event in Paris! This event truly embodies IKEA’s core values, which for over 80 years have revolved around transforming the dream of a personalized home into an affordable reality for everyone. We envision this event as a celebration of art, style, and individual expression, where all are invited to participate,’ expresses Johan Laurell, Country Retail Manager & CSO IKEA France.
