Spider-Man Advocate for Life Arrested Scaling 366-Foot Las Vegas Sphere

LAS VEGAS – An individual known as “The Official Pro-Life Spider-Man” undertook a daring climb up the exterior of the expansive Sphere venue in Las Vegas on Wednesday in a bid to raise funds for a pregnant woman, as reported by [ppp1]. Subsequently, he was apprehended by authorities.

Reports started flooding in to the Las Vegas police regarding a person ascending the 366-foot-tall (112-meter-tall) spherical structure close to the Strip after 10 a.m. Approximately an hour later, law enforcement confirmed the detention of Maison Des Champs, a 24-year-old individual.

This incident unfolded just days ahead of Las Vegas hosting its inaugural [ppp2], anticipated to draw over 330,000 visitors during the week.

Des Champs, a local rock climber with a history of scaling buildings in Las Vegas and other locations, shared a brief video on his Instagram account early Wednesday. The footage depicts him atop the Sphere, with a GoPro camera secured to his head, amidst a backdrop of a cloudy sky.

In the video, amidst the wind noise, he mentions, “Hey guys, I’m here on top of the Sphere,” elucidating that his latest exploit aimed to garner attention for his anti-abortion advocacy while supporting a homeless pregnant woman by raising funds to help her “cancel her abortion appointment.”

Des Champs faces charges of felony destruction of personal property and conspiracy to destroy property, categorized as a gross misdemeanor.

Acknowledging the incident as a publicity stunt, Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill expressed his perspective on the matter.

Des Champs, self-identified as “The Official Pro-Life Spider-Man” on social platforms, has a history of such climbs, including one up San Francisco’s Salesforce Tower, leading to his arrest.

While Des Champs remains in police custody, the Sphere expressed gratitude to the authorities for their assistance.

The individual’s prior activism includes scaling buildings to advocate against abortion, as exemplified by his climb up Phoenix’s tallest building before the Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, and the San Francisco Salesforce Tower climb in May 2022.

DesChamps’ climbing endeavors are motivated by his mission to end abortion, particularly in response to developments related to the Supreme Court Roe v. Wade abortion case, as detailed on his website.
