Upcoming Human Library Event at 95th Street Library
A distinctive event known as the “human library” is being organized by the city of Naperville, the Naperville Public Library, and Naper Pride. This innovative concept allows individuals with diverse life experiences to be borrowed for conversations, similar to checking out a book.
Scheduled to occur on April 20 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the 95th Street Library located at 3015 Cedar Glade Dr, this free event is part of the city’s 2024 series “Embracing Community: Expanding Our Dialogue, Deepening Our Understanding.” The primary objective is to promote inclusivity across different generations, cultures, and backgrounds.
Originating from a Denmark nonprofit group, the Human Library facilitates safe, personal dialogues that challenge prejudices and discrimination. Instead of traditional books, individuals become the storytellers, sharing their life narratives. Attendees are encouraged to engage by asking questions on various topics such as disability, ethnicity, gender, health, ideology, lifestyle, mental health, occupation, religion, and sexuality.
Registration for the event is recommended at www.naperville.il.us/embrace-community.
