Shannon Sharpe continues to lament the highly publicized clash with the Memphis Grizzlies.
During a Lakers-Grizzlies matchup in Los Angeles in January 2023, Sharpe engaged in a heated exchange with Tee Morant, the father of Ja Morant, which he now deeply regrets.
On his recent Volume podcast “Nightcap,” Sharpe admitted to “blacking out” during the incident, describing it as one of the most regrettable moments of his life.
In a candid conversation with co-host Gilbert Arenas, Sharpe confessed, “Honestly, when people talk about blacking out, I can attest to that. I completely lost awareness of my surroundings. I distinctly remember warning that any further provocation would lead to consequences. It pains me to have found myself in that situation, but I truly lost control. Even the security personnel had to intervene and check on me, asking, ‘Hey Unc, are you okay?’ It was in that moment of reflection that I realized my mistake.”
Sharpe took full responsibility for the escalation of tensions, particularly stemming from an altercation with former Grizzlies player Dillon Brooks, known for his confrontational demeanor.
Acknowledging his fault, Sharpe expressed, “I accept the blame. I’m unequivocally in the wrong. I have personally extended my apologies to the Grizzlies organization and Dillon Brooks. Without a doubt, that incident stands out as one of the lowest points in my life. I should have handled it differently.”
At the time of the incident, Sharpe was co-hosting FS1’s “Undisputed” alongside Skip Bayless.
Reflecting on his actions, Sharpe emphasized, “Regardless of the circumstances or the verbal exchanges, I recognize my error. Given my influence and the respect I command, I failed to de-escalate the situation. Instead, I allowed it to spiral out of control.”
The altercation between Shannon Sharpe and Tee Morant at the Lakers-Grizzlies game in January 2023 remains a regrettable episode for Sharpe, underscoring the need for restraint and responsibility in moments of conflict.
