WEBB COUNTY, Texas (KGNS) – Kimberly Tijerina, a versatile individual, is leaving a mark in Webb County.
Hailing from Laredo, Tijerina has donned various roles – from a ranch girl and cattlemen’s daughter to her current position as a businesswoman. Married to Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina, she adeptly manages her roles as a mother and wife alongside her burgeoning entrepreneurial endeavors.
Reflecting on her journey, Tijerina shared, “For the first 25 years of our marriage, I focused on being a homemaker and a mother, tending to the needs of my husband and children, and I have no regrets about it.”
In 2020, Tijerina ventured into a new chapter of her life by stepping into the realm of entrepreneurship as the CEO of CBD Texas Farms, where she cultivates hemp to create skincare products. Describing this shift, she explained, “It all began in 2020 when we started growing hemp certified by the State of Texas. With 5 to 8 years of collective growing experience, we have been compliant in our endeavors, supplying hemp to skincare manufacturers in Texas who cater to national brands.”
The genesis of this venture stemmed from a challenge faced on their ranch. Tijerina elaborated, “When one of our ranches faced potential encroachment from a landfill, I sought solutions to counter any toxicity concerns, leading me to explore the realm of hemp.”
Her personal experience with the benefits of CBD on her health served as a catalyst for deeper involvement in the industry. “Experiencing a significant improvement in my health, better sleep, and reduced pain, I was motivated to delve further,” she shared.
Capitalizing on Texas’ legislation permitting the cultivation of industrial hemp in 2019, Tijerina seized the opportunity to grow hemp on her ranch. Dispelling common misconceptions, she clarified, “Many mistake hemp for marijuana, but they are distinct in genetics, cultivation, regulation, and legal status across all states.”
Recalling her decision to embark on this journey, Tijerina expressed her excitement, saying, “I decided to take the leap and venture into hemp cultivation as a means to repurpose our ranchland, generating profits comparable to traditional ranching.”
Presently, a greenhouse houses 4,000 hemp plants, receiving ample sunlight, artificial lighting, and regular watering. Once matured, these plants will be transplanted to the ranch soil for further growth before being processed into oil or powder for skincare products.
Each plot of land on her property undergoes licensing and inspection by the state, ensuring compliance from plant to seed.
While the greenhouse accommodates around 700 plants, the field cultivation aims for an average of 10 to 15 thousand plants to meet production demands.
Collaborating with a lifestyle brand, Tijerina is expanding her product line to cater to individuals engaged in activities like pickleball.
Navigating the realms of motherhood, marriage, and entrepreneurship poses challenges for Tijerina. Acknowledging her tendency to overwork, she emphasized the importance of family time amidst her busy schedule.
Travelling across the United States for expos multiple times a year, Tijerina values the unwavering support of her loving family.
Sharing insights for aspiring entrepreneurs, she stressed the significance of maintaining a strong foundation rooted in family values. Tijerina’s company recently achieved a milestone by securing a placement at H.E.B., gaining recognition not only in Texas but also among notable personalities like Jennifer Hudson in Hollywood.
