BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA – SEPTEMBER 06: Shannen Doherty participates in the Farrah Fawcett Foundation’s Tex-Mex Fiesta at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on September 06, 2019 in Beverly Hills, California.
Amid her ongoing battle with cancer, Shannen Doherty is realizing the significance of relinquishing certain aspects of her life. In a recent episode of her podcast “Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty,” the former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star shared her insights on the importance of letting go of specific “dreams” and material possessions to facilitate a smoother transition for her loved ones as she confronts stage 4 breast cancer.
Expressing her current focus on her mother, Doherty emphasized, “My priority at the moment is my mom.” She acknowledged the potential challenges her mother might face if she were to pass away before her and expressed her desire to simplify matters for her. Doherty articulated, “I don’t want her to have a bunch of stuff to deal with. I don’t want her to have four storage units filled with furniture.”
Following a visit to her Tennessee residence, where she cares for abandoned horses, Doherty found herself grappling with emotions as she reflected on the sacrifices she was making. Recounting the experience, she shared, “It was really hard and really emotional because to a certain extent – I felt like I was giving up on this dream of building this property out, and putting a house for me and a house for my mom and then extending the barn.”
Despite the initial emotional turmoil, Doherty eventually realized that parting ways with the barn was the right decision. She elaborated, “It feels like you’re giving up on something that was very special and important to you. But you know that it’s the right thing to do and that it’s going to give you a sense of peace and a sense of calm. Because you’re helping the people that you leave behind just have a cleaner, easier transition.”
Doherty also disclosed her intention to sell her material possessions and utilize the proceeds for enriching life experiences. She acknowledged the superfluous nature of excessive belongings, stating, “None of us really need all the stuff that we have, and we could all do with a little bit of downsizing and not become a hoarder, which I was doing with all my furniture.”
Reflecting on her journey with cancer, Doherty shared her optimism and resilience in the face of challenges. Despite the setbacks and the return of her cancer in 2020, she remains determined and grateful for the progress made through treatments. Her unwavering spirit and commitment to making meaningful memories with her loved ones shine through her words and actions.
