Life’s Bridges Celebrates 16 Years of Vital Support and Community Engagement

In Wailua, Life’s Bridges swiftly responded to a tragic incident on a recent Friday afternoon, where a visitor from Colorado tragically lost their life due to a water-related accident. The organization’s specialized team, known as the Bridges Emergency Support Team (B.E.S.T.), was quick to provide crucial bereavement support, a fundamental aspect of their service offerings. This support includes personalized care, family assistance, and referrals within the community, tailored to each unique situation.

B.E.S.T. volunteers, equipped with specialized training, excel in meeting the diverse needs of families during crises. They provide essential practical help, logistical support, and emotional comfort in times of sudden or traumatic losses. These volunteers collaborate closely with local emergency services and healthcare providers to deliver their services efficiently across Kaua‘i.

A special event at Smith’s Tropical Paradise marked the 16th anniversary of Life’s Bridges, featuring performances and speeches that celebrated the organization’s community impact. Kumu Hula Leina‘ala, who has personally benefited from their support, expressed gratitude through dance, highlighting the compassion and dedication of Life’s Bridges’ volunteers. The event underscored the organization’s significant role in the community, bridging gaps during the most challenging times.

Further emphasizing their community role, Life’s Bridges not only provides immediate crisis response but also focuses on broader community education and outreach. They lead initiatives on understanding grief, coping mechanisms, and suicide prevention, striving to create a supportive environment for all. Through workshops and public speaking, they aim to equip individuals with the knowledge and tools to prevent suicide.

Additionally, Life’s Bridges has been instrumental in setting up the Prevent Suicide Kaua‘i Task Force and continues to support grieving children through school-based programs like the Good Grief Club. They also pioneered the Kaua‘i Leaders Against Suicide, training teens to recognize and respond to suicide risks among peers.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Life’s Bridges also found creative ways to uplift spirits, such as organizing an ‘ukulele drive for graduating high school seniors, helping mitigate the disappointment of canceled traditional graduation ceremonies. This act of kindness was part of their continuous efforts to provide hope and positive engagement during exceptionally tough times.
