Environmental Benefits of Amorim Cork’s Natural Cork Stoppers Unveiled

PORTO, PORTUGAL (April 16, 2024): The significant environmental impact of Naturity corks, manufactured by Amorim Cork, is highlighted in a recent “Life Cycle Analysis” (LCA) conducted by PwC at the request of the leading wine stopper producer. The study, which compared three types of stoppers including Naturity cork, an aluminum seal, and a plastic seal, was conducted following ISO 14040 standards and underwent a thorough review by independent experts.

The analysis, which evaluated seven environmental indicators, revealed that Naturity cork stoppers outperform artificial seals in five of the seven indicators, showcasing their eco-friendly nature. This study, which provides updated insights into the environmental impacts of cork stoppers compared to aluminum and plastic closures, underscores the superior sustainability of Naturity corks.

The research, which adopts a meticulous methodology even under worst-case scenarios for natural cork stoppers, underscores the environmental advantages of Naturity corks. These findings are particularly relevant in a time when environmental consciousness is on the rise, emphasizing the importance of choosing sustainable products. Notably, the study confirms that Naturity corks have a negative carbon footprint across their entire life cycle, making them a standout choice for combating climate change.

António Rios de Amorim, the President and CEO of Amorim Cork, views this study as a testament to the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. He emphasizes the importance of Amorim Cork’s leadership in R&D within the cork stopper segment and the unmatched environmental benefits of cork stoppers. Furthermore, he stresses the positive impact of these findings on the wine industry, where sustainability is increasingly viewed as a key competitive advantage.

Amorim Cork’s dedication to providing environmentally friendly products that meet the highest quality standards for wine producers is reiterated in this study. Through continuous investment in innovation and technology, the company strives to enhance the performance of cork stoppers while contributing to environmental protection.

Cork stoppers, with a long-standing tradition spanning centuries, remain the preferred choice for sealing wine bottles due to their sustainable attributes, which set them apart from synthetic alternatives with less favorable environmental profiles.
