Program Background:
Established in 1992, the LIFE Programme serves as the EU’s financial tool for environmental and climate initiatives. Over the years, it has sponsored over 5,500 projects within the EU and in third countries. For the 2021-2027 period, the European Commission has augmented LIFE Programme funding by nearly 60%, reaching €5.4 billion, and introduced the new clean energy transition sub-programme. The management of the LIFE Programme falls under the purview of the European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).
