Las Vegas Individual Receives 8-Year to Life Term for Shooting Spree

A man has admitted to the charges of attempted murder and first-degree kidnapping after firing 27 shots from an AR-15 rifle at his girlfriend and her child in their home in northeast Las Vegas.

Under a plea deal reached last Thursday with the prosecution, Eddie Rabon, aged 40, is set to receive a sentence ranging from eight years to life imprisonment once the case transitions to a judge in District Court for formal sentencing, as per the Clark County District Attorney’s Office.

Following the shooting incident on April 13, 2023, at their residence on 3574 Full Sail Drive in Las Vegas, Rabon has been held in the Clark County Detention Center since his arrest, as explained by Deputy District Attorney Michael Allman.

The altercation unfolded when Rabon and his girlfriend disagreed over his desire to travel to California, conflicting with her daughter’s soccer event, which the daughter did not wish to miss, shared Deputy District Attorney Corey Hallquist.

Subsequently, Rabon directed the girlfriend to the bathroom, expressing his intent to engage in sexual activity, which she declined, Hallquist revealed.

Intoxicated at the time, Rabon, fearing abandonment, brandished the AR-15 rifle and threatened the girlfriend with lethal consequences, Hallquist added.

Upon the girlfriend’s request to bid farewell to her daughter, she retreated to her daughter’s bedroom and shut the door behind her, prompting Rabon to unleash a barrage of gunfire from the AR-15 towards the closed door, narrowly missing the two crouched figures as bullets flew overhead, Allman recounted.

A total of 27 shots were discharged, with six penetrating the door without harm and several exiting the property, landing near another residence on Full Sail Drive, Allman detailed.

Additionally, Rabon ventured into the garage and discharged more rounds that landed in the vicinity, though no injuries were reported, Allman confirmed.

Subsequently, the girlfriend, in a bid to placate Rabon, agreed to accompany him on the trip. However, she took the opportunity to flee with her daughter when Rabon reentered the house, driving until she encountered a marked Metropolitan Police Department vehicle, which led to Rabon’s apprehension, Allman disclosed.

The stipulated sentence agreed upon by Rabon encompasses consecutive terms of five years to life for the kidnapping charge, along with two to 20 years for attempted murder, and an additional one to 10 years for the utilization of a deadly weapon during the commission of the crime, Allman elaborated.

Having been previously convicted in 2014 and incarcerated in a Nevada prison for second-degree kidnapping, Rabon possessed a total of five firearms in his residence, despite being legally barred from firearm possession due to his felon status, Allman highlighted.

“Allman expressed his view that Rabon, an individual ineligible for firearm possession, is now facing a life sentence in prison, citing him as a significant threat who has been removed from society.”

“Hallquist noted Rabon’s history of kidnapping individuals.”
