Reconnecting Through Literary Performance at La Quinta High School
After a pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, La Quinta High School has joyously resumed its long-standing tradition, Literature Live. This event brings the senior class together to perform iconic literary works, creating a vibrant celebration of literature that engages the entire community. Most recently, lifelong friends Aiden Herrera, Giancarlo Lazzarini, and Zion Vartanian starred in a moving rendition of a scene from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” receiving warm applause from an appreciative audience.
The Power of Performance: Students Bring Classics to Life
During the event, held at Old Town Artisan Studio, students from the International Baccalaureate English course performed scenes from diverse literary sources, including works by Banana Yoshimoto and Gabriel García Márquez. This initiative not only highlights the students’ interpretative skills but also enhances communal bonds through shared cultural experiences. Audience members, actively engaging with the performances, added to the dynamic atmosphere, making Literature Live a memorable night that celebrated both education and community spirit.
Enthusiasm and Inspiration Among Students
The return of Literature Live has been a source of inspiration for many students, including senior Mary Grace, who had dreamt of participating since she first attended the event as a child. Alongside Andrew Ho, Grace performed a scene from James Joyce’s “Dubliners,” describing the experience as a thrilling leap out of her comfort zone. The event serves as a poignant farewell for seniors, leaving lasting memories of their final year at high school, as expressed by Kimberly Lara, who found the night profoundly impactful.
In restoring this cherished tradition, La Quinta High School not only celebrates literary heritage but also fosters a strong sense of community and student involvement. As Literature Live continues to evolve, it promises to inspire and educate future generations, underscoring the importance of the arts in shaping well-rounded individuals.
