Speaking with ET’s Ash Crossan at the Los Angeles premiere of We Were the Lucky Ones on Thursday, the 24-year-old actress expressed her joy in being married to Steven Piet, highlighting their simple yet cherished shared activity.
Joey King shared, “Watching Frasier in bed every night before bed, that’s kind of the – I mean, among many other things,” she said with a laugh. “Honestly, it’s funny ‘cause like not much has changed because we’d already lived together but everything is just like a little bit sweeter.”
The couple, Joey King and Steven Piet, first crossed paths while working on Hulu’s The Act, a miniseries based on the life of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Their romantic relationship began in 2019 and was publicly announced.
“I never knew happiness could be so powerful that it can take the air from your lungs, overwhelming every part of you that you can’t help but feel your eyes well from the undeniable joy,” King expressed in her engagement announcement.
The pair tied the knot in Mallorca, Spain in September, surrounded by numerous close friends and family members.
At the ‘We Were the Lucky Ones’ premiere, Joey King and Steven Piet graced the event, posing for photographs before heading in to screen the first episode of her new series. King emphasized the personal significance of the show to her.
“I really hope that people just feel the uniqueness of this family story,” she shared. “I hope that the story allows people to kind of just hold compassion in their hearts for anyone going through any kind of pain without judgment.”
In the TV adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name, Joey King portrays Halina Kurc, the sister of Addy Kurc, played by another actor. The series delves into the Kurc family’s experiences during World War II as they navigate separation and the quest for reunion.
” _We Were the Lucky Ones_ demonstrates how in the face of the twentieth century’s darkest moment, the human spirit can endure and even thrive. The series is a tribute to the triumph of hope and love against all odds,” a description for the series states.
Joey King and Logan Lerman, known for their roles in the film Bullet Train, expressed gratitude for working together on the series. Their friendship and collaboration were highlighted as a positive aspect of their experience on set.
“It was great, it was so great. I mean, working with Joey is like the best ever because you get to go to work with your best friend and I hope we get to do it more times,” shared Lerman. “We’re talking about what’s the next thing we can do together ‘cause we enjoy it so much.”
The Hulu miniseries We Were the Lucky Ones is set to premiere on March 28.
