The Transformation of Terry Crews: Overcoming Pride and Addiction Through Faith
By Movieguide® Contributor
Terry Crews shared his journey of conquering pride and battling pornography addiction by relinquishing them to God.
Reflecting on his past struggles, Crews admitted, “Pride was my biggest issue,” during an interview on TBN.
Recalling a poignant moment with his son at a movie screening, Crews recounted, “I remember taking my son to this movie when he was about 6 years old. It was filled with superheroes, explosions, and intense scenes of peril. I noticed him wincing and recoiling in fear. Despite his discomfort, he tried to appear brave.” Crews realized the parallel between his son’s facade of strength and his own internal struggles with pride and addiction.
Acknowledging his own vulnerability, Crews confessed, “I was living a lie. I was battling a hidden addiction to pornography, a relentless monster that consumed me. I refused to acknowledge my weakness. God was asking me, ‘Are you truly okay?’ I falsely reassured Him, ‘Yes, I’m fine.’”
However, a pivotal moment occurred when Crews humbly approached God, admitting, “No, I am not okay.” It was in that moment of surrender that transformation began to take place. Crews emphasized, “Once my pride crumbled, once I shed the facade, God could begin His work of renewal.”
By relinquishing his addiction and pride to God, Crews experienced a profound change in his life.
Reflecting on this transformation, Crews’ wife, Rebecca, remarked, “Today, I see a man transformed. He embraced the Word of God wholeheartedly and allowed it to guide his path. He humbly submitted to God’s will, becoming a kinder and gentler version of himself. Our marriage, once on the brink of collapse, was resurrected.”
The couple now leverages their platform to inspire others to restore and strengthen their marriages.
In a previous statement regarding Crews’ addiction, Movieguide® reported:
Terry Crews candidly shared the impact of his pornography addiction on his marriage with Rebecca King-Crews.
During an interview on the “” show with host Janine Rubenstein, the couple disclosed the challenges they faced.
“The best advice I received was from a close friend, whom I reached out to when Rebecca asked me to leave,” Crews recalled. “He told me, ‘Terry, you need to heal for yourself.’ This was a pivotal moment for me. In my upbringing, achievements were always tied to rewards. However, the concept of self-improvement for personal growth was foreign to me.”
