Kansas City Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker recently explained the significance behind his choice to wear a tie with a Latin pro-life message during the team’s visit to the White House last year.
In a notable moment captured on camera, Butker stood behind the President proudly displaying the tie. His pro-life stance starkly contrasts with the pro-choice policies of the Biden administration.
The discourse surrounding a potential national abortion ban in the United States has intensified in the past couple of years, especially following a significant shift in the Supreme Court that could potentially challenge the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling legalizing abortion.
Butker’s silent protest occurred in June during the Chiefs’ celebratory visit following their Super Bowl victory the previous year.
While the upcoming celebration in honor of Kansas City’s triumph is anticipated to take place at the White House later this spring, an official date has yet to be announced.
In a recent statement, Butker clarified that he does not plan to stage another protest against the Biden administration’s pro-choice stance. However, he emphasized that considerable contemplation went into his symbolic gesture from the previous year.
Reflecting on his decision, Butker shared, “I was struck by the significance of the moment. Unfortunately, there are legislative measures being advocated that I believe do not uphold the sanctity of all human life, particularly the legalization of abortion in our nation.”
Explaining the Latin phrase on his tie, Butker elaborated, “With my interest in Latin growing through attending Latin mass, I chose ‘Vulnerari Praesidio,’ which translates to ‘to protect the most vulnerable.’ For me, the unborn epitomize the most defenseless members of our society. They lack a voice, may not resemble full-grown humans, are tiny, and are unable to advocate for themselves.”
Butker and his wife, Isabelle Butker, have candidly shared their journey of enduring three miscarriages while persisting in their quest to expand their family.
Expressing his concern, Butker remarked, “There are too few advocates for the unborn, and I find it deeply troubling how the unborn are marginalized in our society.” He added, “I believed that the White House was a fitting platform to raise awareness and represent the voiceless, given the unfortunate reality that their plight often goes unnoticed.”
Harrison and Isabelle, who exchanged vows in 2018, are parents to two children.
