Temporary Goodbye to the Platform that Transformed My World

How many instances can one mention living out a dream before completing their junior year of college?

That’s precisely the experience I had writing for and managing Inside NU starting in July 2021. Having grown up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago as a Northwestern fan, admiring players like Justin Jackson and Paddy Fisher, the thought of covering Northwestern games had always lingered in the back of my mind.

Joining Inside NU allowed me to actualize that aspiration and much more. The inaugural Northwestern game I covered for INU, the Northwestern-Iowa matchup at Ryan Field in 2021, encapsulated the unpredictable nature of Big Ten contests. From the 17-12 scoreline to a protest causing a delay in the game, the experience was memorable. Witnessing Tyler Linderbaum’s standout performance and engaging with top players and figures within the Big Ten left me in awe, a feeling that has persisted throughout my journey with Inside NU.

While there were challenges during my tenure as a staff writer, managing editor, and co-editor-in-chief, such as Northwestern’s struggles in football and men’s basketball, these low points taught me valuable lessons in seeking new perspectives and posing tough questions to underperforming programs.

The past summer presented a unique set of challenges, with scandals unfolding across various sports, transforming my role at Inside NU from an extracurricular activity to a consuming responsibility. Despite moments of professional and personal turmoil, navigating sensitive reporting and upholding ethical standards during tumultuous times reinforced the importance of quality journalism.

Amidst the trials, I consider myself fortunate to have witnessed remarkable achievements while contributing to Inside NU. From covering March Madness trips for men’s basketball to attending the NFL Combine and various Big Ten events, each experience was a testament to the unique opportunities afforded by Inside NU.

I am immensely grateful for the support of my co-editors, the dedicated Inside NU editorial staff, Northwestern’s athletic communications team, coaches, and players who contributed to my growth as a journalist. Additionally, my family’s unwavering support and the engagement of Northwestern’s passionate fanbase have been instrumental in my journey.

As I embark on the next chapter of my career in sports journalism, I am confident that the skills and experiences gained at Inside NU have prepared me for the competitive industry landscape. While my focus may shift in the future, the impact of my time at Inside NU will always resonate, shaping my approach to storytelling and reporting in the world of sports.
