California is preparing for an incoming [storm] as meteorologists are forecasting that the state will face up to 10 feet of [snow] over the upcoming weekend.

The severe weather is anticipated to primarily impact the state’s mountainous regions, encompassing the Sierra Nevada, Mammoth Mountain, and Tahoe Basin areas. Among these, the Sierra Nevada area is projected to bear the brunt of the [snowfall]. Additionally, winds in this vicinity are expected to reach speeds of about 60 mph.

Authorities are urging residents in the area to refrain from traveling during the [storm], cautioning that drivers may encounter whiteout conditions and nearly zero visibility. As a precautionary measure, several road and highway closures are likely to be implemented.

The Weather Prediction Center has warned of a high likelihood of significant and prolonged disruptions to daily life in the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada. The National Weather Service highlighted the perilous conditions expected for Sierra travel throughout the weekend, with a period of potentially life-threatening blizzard conditions from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning.

If residents must venture outside, it is recommended that they dress appropriately for the [cold weather]. The agency emphasized the importance of hunkering down during this time.

Snowfall may persist through early next week

While a weather advisory is in effect until Sunday afternoon, National Weather Service officials have indicated that [snow] could continue into the early part of next week if weather conditions persist. This prolonged [snowfall] is attributed to the presence of deep cold air and abundant moisture.

Yosemite National Park to shut down amid warnings of 7 feet of [snow]

National Park Service officials have instructed all Yosemite visitors to evacuate the area by Thursday evening, with the park expected to remain closed until approximately Sunday afternoon.

Officials have forecasted around 7 feet of [snow] at Badger Pass, the park’s ski area, along with high winds.

Potential life-threatening conditions in Sierra Nevada area
