BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – First responders in Bryan are engaging in training sessions this week in a local neighborhood to ensure preparedness for any potential emergencies. The Bryan Fire Department initiated the training on Tuesday and will continue through Thursday on Maywood Drive, situated behind South College Avenue near University Drive.
During these sessions, firefighters are honing their skills for various scenarios, including search and rescue operations within a simulated structure fire. A house was generously donated for this purpose, and Habitat for Humanity furnished the home with furniture. Additionally, Bryan Iron provided metal for firefighters to practice forcible entry techniques.
Recruits from the department actively participated in the training on Tuesday, while crews from all Bryan stations will rotate through night training sessions. Chris Lamb, the Public Information Officer for the Bryan Fire Department, emphasized the rarity and value of such hands-on training opportunities.
Bryan Fire Chief Richard Guisti emphasized the department’s commitment to continuous training to provide exceptional service to the community and ensure the safety of firefighters. The training scenarios are specifically designed to enhance skills in search and rescue operations under challenging conditions.
These training sessions not only enhance skills but also provide a platform for veteran firefighters to mentor and train alongside their younger colleagues. Lt. Walter Noel, a 15-year veteran firefighter, highlighted the significance of sharing knowledge and experience with the newer members of the team.
Chief Guisti expressed pride in the dedication and passion of the firefighters towards their work and serving the residents of Bryan. The commitment and enthusiasm displayed during training reflect their deep-rooted love for their profession and the community they serve.
It is important to note that the training exercises conducted by the Bryan Fire Department on Maywood Drive are purely for training purposes and not in response to an actual fire incident.
