Bijou Phillips is moving on from her marriage to Danny Masterson, who is a convicted rapist.
At a recent viewing party, Phillips, 43, appeared in public following Masterson’s transfer to a California prison. When asked about her well-being at a Janie’s Fund charity event, the “Almost Famous” actress mentioned that she and Masterson’s 9-year-old daughter, Fianna, make a great team.
This public appearance by Phillips occurred shortly after reports surfaced that she had left Scientology, the church that reportedly expelled Masterson, 47, due to his criminal actions. An insider revealed that Phillips decided to leave Scientology upon learning that Masterson had been declared a “suppressive person” for not meeting the church’s standards.
Despite the challenges of leaving Scientology, Phillips, whose loved ones are mostly not affiliated with the church, made the difficult choice to distance herself from the organization. Phillips had stood by Masterson throughout his legal battles but eventually filed for divorce in mid-September, citing irreconcilable differences.
The couple, who got engaged in 2009 and married in 2011, share a daughter, Fianna. Phillips has requested full custody of their child but will allow visitation with Masterson while he serves his sentence.
A judge recently denied Masterson’s bail request, citing him as a flight risk. Phillips, in a character letter during Masterson’s trials, praised him as a devoted father despite their current separation. She expressed sadness over his absence and highlighted his commitment to staying connected with their daughter, even from jail.
In a separate development, Phillips shared images on social media from a much-needed vacation in Nassau, Bahamas, in December.
