Cheryl Regan, aside from her family, had a profound dedication to church, politics, and Minnesota State University Athletics. She was a significant source of support and inspiration within these realms, leaving a lasting impact on those she encountered.
On January 28, at the age of 79, Regan passed away in Granbury, Texas, where she had relocated to be near her family.
Initially starting her career as a teacher, Regan eventually transitioned into a role that aligned perfectly with her strengths: fundraising for the MSU Athletic Department. Alongside this role, she also engaged in various community-based initiatives that resonated with her sense of purpose, as shared by her daughter, Erin Drummer, from Glen Rose, Texas.
Known for her meticulous attention to detail, Regan had meticulously documented the significant milestones of her life. Through this document, Drummer can vividly recount Regan’s journey, from her teaching days in St. Clair after graduating from Mankato in 1965.
Married to Robert Michael Regan, Cheryl’s involvement in politics was likely influenced by her marriage. Over the years, she had notable experiences such as attending events at the White House during President Jimmy Carter’s administration, meeting President Ronald Reagan in Minneapolis, and being part of the Minnesota delegation at the Republican National Convention in Dallas.
Her dedication to political causes was evident in her volunteer work for Congressman Vin Weber’s campaign and her support for candidates like Mark Piepho. Piepho fondly recalls her mentorship and support during his political endeavors, emphasizing her genuine care and encouragement towards his goals.
In 1985, an unexpected opportunity arose for Regan to join the Minnesota State Athletics department, initially intended as a temporary position. Serendipitously, this role became a lifeline for her family during challenging times, transitioning from temporary to permanent as her husband faced health struggles and retired from his legal career.
Throughout her tenure at the university, Regan played a pivotal role in supporting the athletic director and fostering community connections. Her dedication and passion for her work made her a revered figure within the university and beyond.
Beyond her professional commitments, Regan devoted countless hours to various community organizations, showcasing her commitment to service and involvement in causes close to her heart.
Despite facing health challenges, including a recent diagnosis of a heart condition, Regan remained resilient. Her transition to different care settings in Texas reflected her determination to prioritize her well-being in the final chapters of her life.
