In a conversation with Rachel Smith from ET at the New York City premiere of “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” on Monday, the 40-year-old actor expressed his contentment with the current phase of his life, highlighting the blend of joy and newfound direction he is experiencing.
Sharing his sentiments, the star of “Man of Steel” mentioned, “I’m enjoying this stage of my life very much so. I’m turning 41 in May and I have a real sense of approaching everything with more direction now.”
Reflecting on the advantages of aging, he emphasized the value of hindsight, particularly in his career trajectory. He stated, “One of the advantages of getting older is that you have the beauty of hindsight. And now with my career especially, I’ve got a lot of direction. I’ve got my hands on the steering wheel a lot more.”
While refraining from explicitly naming individuals, the actor subtly alluded to his departure from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s revamped DC Universe, a move that left him without a role. Prior to this development, he had appeared in a post-credit scene for “Black Adam.”
Addressing this transition, Cavill candidly shared, “I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.”
The decision to reboot the franchise stirred controversy, especially considering Cavill’s simultaneous involvement in “The Witcher.” Despite these changes, Cavill has actively engaged in various projects, including “Argylle,” where he worked alongside a talented ensemble cast.
At the recent NYC premiere of his film, Cavill expressed his excitement about collaborating with the director, who encouraged him to embrace a more uninhibited approach to his character portrayal. Playing the role of Gus March-Phillips in a movie based on a true World War II story, Cavill delved into portraying an unorthodox secret agent with a penchant for taking down the Third Reich.
When questioned about the possibility of portraying James Bond, Cavill expressed his willingness to explore the iconic role, acknowledging the enthusiasm of fans who have envisioned him as the next 007. He humorously referenced a viral YouTube video featuring him as Bond and Margot Robbie as his Bond girl, signaling his openness to the prospect.
“The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” is set to hit theaters on April 19.
