Ryan Gosling Reveals Reliance on Stunt Doubles Throughout His Life

After debuting at [ppp1], the film quickly traveled to Los Angeles for a special screening on Wednesday night.

At The Grove, [ppp2] was accompanied by the director and co-stars Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, and Stephanie Hsu, offering the audience an exclusive preview of the movie. The storyline features Gosling portraying a former stuntman who is lured back into the industry when the lead actor (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) in a film directed by his ex-partner (Blunt) goes missing.

Reflecting on his experience, Gosling shared, “I was part of a children’s action TV series called Young Hercules, and I’ve always had a stunt double by my side.” He emphasized the often overlooked contribution of stunt performers, highlighting the disparity in recognition they receive compared to other crew members on set. Gosling humorously declared, “That changes today!”

He further expressed, “It would take about eight stunt performers to create a single Fall Guy moment, and there were instances where I questioned if we were filming a movie or planning a heist, considering the exceptional teamwork displayed by the stunt crew.” Gosling likened their collaboration to that of superheroes, acknowledging their invaluable support throughout his career.

During the screening, special acknowledgment was given to one of the film’s stuntmen, Logan Holladay, who set a Guinness World Record for executing the most cannon rolls in a car—achieving eight and a half rolls in a single scene while serving as Gosling’s stunt driver. Gosling recounted the awe-inspiring moment when Holladay performed the daring stunt and then promptly assisted him out of the vehicle, showcasing the seamless teamwork behind the scenes.

Director Leitch, drawing from his own background as a former stunt performer, expressed the personal significance of the movie, aiming to not only celebrate action cinema but also shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes of the stunt community. He emphasized their unwavering dedication and the risks they undertake to deliver captivating sequences on screen.

Adding a touch of humor, Waddingham quipped, “In another life, I might have considered becoming a stuntwoman if I had the courage. I mentioned this to David and [producer] Kelly [McCormick], but they soon realized my limitations in that area. So, it’s safe to say the stunt community won’t be gaining a new member in me.”

The Fall Guy is set to premiere in theaters on May 3rd.
