Long Beach Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for the 2022 Murder of His Wife

A Horrifying Crime and Guilty Plea

District Attorney W. Crosby Parker announced today that Robert John Oshinski, 39, from Long Beach, pleaded guilty to the murder of his wife, Ashley Barbara, on January 9, 2022. The investigation began after Oshinski brought an unconscious and severely beaten Barbara to the Memorial Hospital emergency room, where she tragically died from her injuries within hours. The initial findings by Gulfport Police revealed that the fatal assault took place in the couple’s camper, where they lived with their three children.

Evidence and Heartbreaking Testimonies

Further investigation by the Long Beach Police Department uncovered that Oshinski used a conduit pipe and a wrench to carry out the fatal attack in front of their children. Forensic analysis confirmed Barbara’s blood on both items, and her autopsy showed signs of long-term abuse, including multiple fractures and internal injuries. During the court proceedings, the couple’s eldest child, now 13, gave a heart-wrenching statement, recounting the traumatic memory of witnessing the brutal assault.

Justice Served with a Life Sentence

Oshinski was sentenced to life in prison by Circuit Court Judge Randi P. Mueller after pleading guilty to first-degree murder. The judge called the case one of the most disturbing she had ever seen but acknowledged that Oshinski’s plea spared the children from testifying. Assistant District Attorney Ian Baker praised the efforts of the Gulfport and Long Beach Police Departments, emphasizing that the life sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the lasting impact on the couple’s young children.
