Living on the Edge: A Relatable Story of Sharing a Bed

For some individuals, a common issue that may arise initially and gradually become bothersome over time is the challenge of sharing a bed with a partner.

A woman brought attention to a significant downside of bed-sharing with a significant other—the continuous struggle for space on the bed and under the duvet.

In a viral video that has amassed over 7.2 million views since it was first shared on February 2, the woman was depicted being tightly spooned by her sleeping husband to the extent that she was inadvertently pushed to the edge of the bed.

The woman humorously questioned, “Do any other husbands do this?”

She specifically pointed out that her partner was using her pillow as his own, leaving her with just an inch of space before potentially falling off the bed.

The post was playfully captioned: “Living life on the edge (of the bed).”

The video’s creator, identified by the username @thecringeymillenial, commented, “Millions of people can relate… sleeping on the edge while your spouse occupies the rest of the bed,” in an interview with Newsweek.

According to a 2021 YouGov survey involving over 12,000 U.S. adults, 16 percent of Americans indicated that their “ideal sleeping arrangement” would entail sleeping in separate beds from their partners. Respondents were asked to disregard cost and emotional implications in their decision-making.

Audience Responses

Since @thecringeymillenial shared the TikTok post, it has garnered more than 452,000 likes and amassed over 9,000 comments. Several TikTok users have shown their support for the woman through amusing anecdotes and comments in the post’s section.

“Oh yes. And then he complains about having little space during the night,” one user shared.

Another user humorously quipped, “He’s snoring in my ear and hogging the blanket, but later claims he didn’t sleep at all.”

“Yes, and despite him being a heat-generating bear, I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” a third TikTok user confessed.

A different user commented, “Yes, and he has the nerve to say ‘you have enough space, it’s 5050.’ It would be if you could kindly move your knee.”

“I woke up hanging off the bed, and he still had the audacity to claim that I was taking up most of the bed,” added another user.
