Life Sentence for Gangster Disciples Enforcer Convicted of Brutal Athens Murders

Lesley Chappell Green (Gwinnett County Police Department)

Location: ATHENS, Georgia

Lesley Chappell Green, also known as “Grip,” hailing from Stone Mountain, has been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole by Chief U.S. District Judge Marc Treadwell. This verdict comes as a consequence of his involvement in the murder of three Athens residents, as part of his role within a reputed national criminal group’s Georgia division.

Green, along with his accomplices Philmon Deshawn Chambers, aka “Dolla Phil,” and Andrea Paige Browner, aka “Drea,” was found guilty by a federal jury in August 2023 for violating the Georgia Racketeer Influenced and Corruption Organization (RICO) Act. Green’s specific task within the organization involved enforcing discipline among members through acts of violence and homicide.

The three murders were carried out in retaliation for the killing of Gangster Disciples member Walter Brown on December 10, 2018, in Athens. Chambers, four days after Brown’s demise, fatally shot Rodriquez Apollo Rucker near Rucker’s residence, following information provided by Browner linking the victim to a family member suspected of Brown’s murder. Subsequently, Browner and Chambers fled the vicinity, anticipating police pursuit.

While Browner was apprehended in Mt. Enterprise, Texas, Chambers managed to evade capture. Suspecting collaboration with law enforcement, Chambers targeted Derrick Ruff and Joshua Jackson, erroneously believing them to be informants, instructing Green to execute the two individuals.

Communication intercepts among Chambers, Green, Carlisle, and Guidry disclosed that Green enticed Ruff and Jackson to burglarize storage units and dispatch stolen goods to Chambers in Killeen, Texas. The victims met their tragic fate on December 19, 2018, with their remains concealed in the storage facility until their discovery by authorities and cadaver-detecting canines on March 17, 2019. Although Chambers, Green, Carlisle, and Guidry plotted to dispose of the bodies, law enforcement thwarted their plans before execution.

In response to the sentencing, U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary remarked, “No sentence could ever ease the pain that Lesley Green inflicted on the families of the murder victims in this tragic case.” He emphasized the calculated violence of the Gangster Disciples organization and affirmed the commitment of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia to vigorously prosecute such heinous crimes.

Chambers and Browner are scheduled for sentencing on March 20 in Macon. Additionally, two other co-defendants who previously pleaded guilty in June 2023, Robert Maurice Carlisle, aka “Different,” and Shabazz Larry Guidry, aka “Lil Larry,” will face sentencing on March 22. Carlisle, from Lithonia, Georgia, admitted to Racketeer Influenced and Corruption Organization (RICO) conspiracy and could receive a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, while Guidry, a resident of Decatur, Georgia, pleaded guilty to the same charge and is also facing a potential life sentence.
