Lawsuit against Sofia Vergara by real-life mobster’s son ‘Griselda’ permanently dismissed

Sofia Vergara discussed her admiration for the dedication shown by her fellow judges on ‘America’s Got Talent’ in an interview with Fox News Digital. She highlighted the importance of the show to the contestants and how seriously everyone involved takes their roles.

A lawsuit against Netflix and Sofia Vergara regarding the show “Griselda” was officially dismissed by a judge, as confirmed by Fox News Digital. The lawsuit, filed by Michael Corleone Blanco and his wife Marie, alleged the unauthorized use of the family’s image and story in the fictional portrayal of Griselda Blanco.

The dismissal of the lawsuit, filed in Miami-Dade County Court on Feb. 9, indicated a resolution, though details of any settlement remain undisclosed. Both Netflix and Sofia Vergara have yet to respond to requests for comments from Fox News Digital.

In the initial complaint, the Blanco family accused Netflix of incorporating details shared by Griselda’s son Michael during interviews without consent or compensation. The family emphasized that the information was meant for a book and a Spanish soap opera, not a Netflix series.

Michael Blanco expressed disappointment in not being involved in the project despite prior discussions with Sofia Vergara’s team. He claimed that his family’s insights were disregarded for commercial purposes, leading to a formal cease-and-desist letter to Netflix and Vergara’s representatives.

The Netflix series depicts the life of Griselda Blanco, a notorious Colombian drug lord, and her rise in the cartel while raising four children. Despite the controversy, Sofia Vergara, known for her role in “Modern Family,” embraced the challenge of portraying such a complex character, citing her personal connection to the era and the understanding of the character’s motivations.
